The making of a video: Behind the scenes

Ever wondered what goes in behind every short video you see online, or how long it takes for someone to film and post a video on a social sharing platform? It depends on the length, production quality and storyline. I just thought of giving you an inside view on what goes in creating a short 1-minute product video, and to walk you through my creative process.

The perfect nightcap @ 11am

Alcohol, and more specifically cocktails, have traditionally been one of the best products for TV ads. It’s easy to create stories around them, since the process of mixing the various ingredients is a story of its own. So since we’re in lockdown and I can’t film outside, I decided to make my own short cocktail-making video one morning. And yes, it involved some sipping and tasting during early hours.

I lost everything...

Two year’s worth of footage and photos are gone. There’s no way to recover them and I have only myself to blame. And that’s all because spending north of $80 a couple of years back seemed like an unnecessary and costly expense. I couldn’t be more wrong. Let me explain.

The importance of exercising during the "CORONA PERIOD"

Exercising during the COVID-19 global pandemic can be somewhat of a challenge. Sure it’s fine if you enjoy running outdoors or going to the parks and doing some stretches. But what happens when your standard form of exercise is a team sport which is now banned? You have to improvise if you want to get rid of that extra weight you gained as a result of the lockdown. One of those improvisations led me to take up a HIIT class at home. A big mistake…

Or was it? I made a video about it so let’s find out.

We got the gift of time

We live in the toughest times our generations have seen. Our lives have turned upside down within weeks, with 1/3 of the world in lockdown. But we’ve all been given an invaluable gift. A gift that we very often wished we had more of in our daily lives, and to move forward, we should cherish and leverage it accordingly.

We need to keep on dreaming

We’re all going through tough times. Both personally and collectively. The dear situation we find ourselves in has had a tremendous impact on our lives, and we don’t want to accept this new reality. However, the sooner we accept it, the sooner we’ll be able to keep on dreaming and chasing our goals. Because we need to have goals to keep on going. Otherwise, we’re on the fast lane to depression. And I’m reluctant to surrender.

The People of London

Have you ever sat at a corner of a filled room looking at people, their expressions and reactions and wondered what their story is? It’s called “people watching” and it used to be my favourite pass time earlier in life when smartphones and portable consoles were not as popular. I’m looking to do the same through pictures and document a year in Londoners’ life.

Brewing the perfect cup of coffee

Every YouTuber who respects itself (and drinks coffee) has to have a coffee making video in its channel. Jokes aside, videos like this present a great opportunity to sharpen my product videography skills and focus on the frames and sequences I want to include. At the very least, I’d be left with a delicious cup of coffee.

How safe do you feel at home?

Last year more than 60,000 London homes were broken into. One of those was of my good friend and best man who came home from work one day only to find out his apartment of 6 years was broken into in the middle of the day. That gave me an idea to stage and film my very own break-in... of my own apartment.

The creative 2020s - Not another new year's resolution

Can you measure creativity? How do you determine whether you’ve become more creative? I’m not one that keeps his new year resolutions, failing pretty miserably every time I try it. So how do I make sure I achieve such an aspiration and broad objective or being more creating? I believe the key lays in setting long term goals and work your way down. Let me explain…

I missed you…

How long is too long without your other half? I lasted less than a week and I was eager to reunite with Katerina. Not home. At a Greek island. Travelling half across the world to meet her didn’t scare me. What scared me was that I had to spend another 1.5 weeks apart…

Finding the right balance

It’s been a while since I posted something here. Work along with personal matters got the best of me and I slacked behind on videos, photos and writing. Finding the right balance is tough, but I’m back with more creative ideas than ever!

The best part about travelling

What's your best part about travelling? Is it the destination? Sure is. The new cultures you get to experience? Absolutely! Hell yeah! Is it the adventure, or the arriving at your destination part? Could be both. Or is the company that makes a journey worth it?
