Moving houses and dreams...

Moving houses and dreams...

We can all agree. Moving houses is a stressful process. If you’ve done it at least once in your life, moving houses is once of the most exciting, but yet draining, experiences in your adult life. And I’m not referring to the physical process of moving. I mostly refer to the phycological process you take yourself through when you leave vivid memories behind.

Neither Katerina, nor I like changes that much. We like our little routine, simply because we built it in such a way that makes us happy and fulfils our lives. We recently took the big decision to leave the flat we called home for 5 years, and move to a new place for the simple reason that the tiny flat that housed our small family for half a decade grew too small for us… however you want to interpret this.

We already knew that to find a place that was going to make both of us happy, while staying within budget, was going to be hard. We were aware that the packing process was going to be even hard. What we failed to take into consideration however, was the emotional challenge we were due to put our selves through.

We decided to film the process and make an interview-style movie out of it, capturing our excitement and happiness for finding a new place. But we soon realised that what makes a home, a moment even a location, special, are the memories you build with the people you live. And the memories we have from that small flat, are too strong to leave behind.

At the end of the day, memories define who we are. Because as humans, we act based on our previous experiences and memories. Katerina and I are changing our habits and routine, and we’re grateful for our new beginnings. But that small place we spent the last 5 years of our lives, growing, maturing, laughing, crying, entertaining and living in, will always have a special place in our hearts. Same with the tiny dorm room we lived in for 6 months back when I first moved to London to be with my wife.

Here’s to never forgetting where you came from.

Till next time…
