The People of London

The People of London

I started this blog just over a year ago, as I was looking for a channel to share my photos and videos, but also track my progress. My first post was about a 30-day photography challenge I did in hopes of discovering my prefered photography style. This is how I discovered my interest in street photography.

What I didn’t realise at the time was that street photography has different styles of its own. From shooting people, to portraits, to architecture, and photojournalism. I tried to keep it as consistent as possible, but being the hobbyist photographer that I am, it’s hard to stick to one style when you want to document everything around you. This made me realise that while my photos were getting better every day, I struggled with refining my skills in one area over another.

My new challenge is all about creating a photojournal dedicated to “The People of London”.

From an early age, I remember myself sitting at a corner on a bus or on the tube studying my fellow passengers guessing their stories, judging from their facial expressions. Us humans, we tend to wear our emotions whether happy, sad, worried, stressed or concerned and throughout my street photography journey so far, I rediscovered my passion for coming up with people’s background stories and capturing their emotions at a given time. This feeds my imagination and also gives me ideas for new short films. After all, I’m a storyteller at heart.

So, for the next 12 months, I decided to create a photojournal dedicated to the people of London. I want to document different styles, emotions, actions and eventually create a photo book I could go back one day and see how life and Londoners in the 20s were.

Does this mean I’ll stop shooting anything else interesting I happen to come across? No. I’ll still go out and explore the streets, but I’ll refine my focus on the search for interesting personas.

I’ll have several blog entries throughout this journey, serving as check-ins. If you want to follow the story and my progress, I’ll be updating this gallery page on a monthly basis with new photos, but feel free to subscribe to my newsletter to get my latest blog entries as well.

Till next time…
