My first commercial photoshooting
In 2018, I picked up photography and cinematography as a hobby. I soon discovered that I needed to dive deeper into the basics of making pictures and animations stand out, so I decided to challenge myself and pick up a 30-day photography challenge. The challenge had a strong focus on product photography.
I posted a couple of those compositions online and I was lucky enough to get the attention of a Greek shoe brand. They asked me to photograph their entire winter collection for their online store. Wow!
Anny K., is a women shoe brand with stores in Glyfada and Palaio Faliro in Athens, Greece. The owner, Anny Kirimli currently explores ways to take her business online, so this seemed the perfect collaboration opportunity for two newly established brands as they begin their individual journeys in their respective field. So I agreed to help out and photograph their shoes next time I was in Athens.
I wasn't sure what to expect from the session or Anny's requirements for that matter. At the end of the day, my pictures would partly determine whether a shoe gets sold or not. I studied shoe photography beforehand and I knew I needed to follow a certain style, but I wasn't sure if the owners had something more specific in mind. I also wanted to add a bot of my own flair in it. It turns out Anny was open to my creative recommendations and directions.
We spent two days at a made-up studio in the basement of Anny K's warehouse, going through more than 200 pair of shoes. I ended up snapping more than 3,000 shots, enough to make sure I got the perfect angle and creative composition for each pair. After all, those photos were going up on her website.
It turned out to be a very fun session, and the owners were very happy with my work, so we renewed our partnership for their upcoming summer collection.
In all honesty, it helps that their products stand out on their own and are an easy sell. Check them out yourself at www.annykshoes.gr.
