All in 30-Day Photo Challenge
One of the reasons I picked up this 30-day challenge was to discover the style of photography I like the most. Landscape, portrait, product, skyline? The choices are endless.
For today’s challenge, I was asked to pick a colour, any colour, and compose a photograph that exemplifies that colour. Easy enough right? Not quite as you’d think.
What made me fall in love with photography and cinematography in the first place, is that in order to captivate your audience and land your story, you need to make them empathize with your protagonists first. And this is mainly thanks to the correct use of emotions throughout your picture. Motion or still.
I admit it. At first, I was so thrown out of this particular challenge that I considered skipping it. I didn't really know where to start from. My favourite painting, which hangs in our living room, is very abstract. I had no idea how to recreate it.
It’s been a full week since I started this challenge and I already feel a bit more confident around my camera.
Today I had to portray movement and action. There are a number of ways to do this with most of them involving a moving subject.
Day 6 is all about finding surfaces or objects with a high specular value to compose your shot. This ranges from water to a polished car, to shiny stone or anything that reflects light.
I consider this day two of the soft-light/hard-light challenge. Again, my task is clear. Capture your subject under clear skies, when the sun is high up in the sky, the daylight is washed out, and the shadows are deep black.
Wait, what? Stopping motion? I guess today we’re going deeper into creative photography. How on earth am I going to make a moving object stop?
Chances are unless you’re a model, you feel as intimidated and awkward when posing in front of a lens as I do. You can imagine my initial reaction when asked to do a self-portrait for the second day of the challenge.
To set the record straight, I did not come up with the photo challenge myself. At the end of the day I want to improve my skills and learn new techniques, so I did my research and found a challenge that would best suit my daily schedule, since I work full time in AdTech, and challenge me to go the extra mile.
Thank you for opting into this photographic journey with me. Before I jump in, I just want to share a couple of things about me.
